Highlight of the Mixer?

topic posted Fri, January 30, 2004 - 2:51 PM by  Mark
Well, it appears that a lot of us had a good time at the Winter Mixer. Are there any highlights worthy of recounting here? Funny moments? Odd observations? Awkward moments? Perturbing Moments? People not looking like their pictures / profiles? People looking too much like their pictures / profiles?

Chime in with your impressions for *%$#s and grins!

Plant Trees was bouncing off the walls. That was fun to watch.

The strippers were my absolute favorite!

The green acid made me sick, but the transparent bathroom-walls were interesting.

I got there about 45 minutes after it started and the beer was gone. Did you guys just bring a twelve pack?;) It was good to see a couple of old friends. Friends I've known before we got on tribe. It was kinda weird watching everyone staring at each other trying to figure out who was who. I'm partially guilty of this until about 1 minute after I arrived and recognized no one. The place was too packed and it looked like everyone was enjoying themselves...Thanks for the posters!

you can't forget the calendar. i'd basically kept it under wraps as a mmManfarm thang, but we got a number of people coming out and checking out the hot hot pinups in our corner. ;)

Uh, so what's new about that? You should've seen
him at Decompression last fall - I swear, the older
Scott gets, the more momentum he gathers. :)

Maybe I've been hiding under a rock for the last 6 months, but I think my favorite thing at the mixer was the number of people taking pictures of each other on cell phones, PDA's, and cameras. Maybe someones should post a few of these in the mixer album?

Thanks again tribe folks for putting this on!

I had a good time, and it was fun finally meeting some people that I had only met online, but at the same time I felt like I was at some odd singles thing, or school thing..."So...what tribes are you in?" (What's your major? Your sign? Come here often?) It was fun in the long run, but I thought the dynamic was interesting, and totally differant from anything I've ever experienced. Of course, I'm not much of a tekkie, and I've only been on tribe a short time...

My highlight was trying to guess which tribes I recognized people from. Since I may be in 40 or more tribes at a time it was mind bogling.

Same here, Aleman. I recognized a few people right off the bat, but a lot of folks, well ... it was tricky. I should have spent more time exploring tribe members' profiles to see actual pics (and I am sooo guilty of that, myself). But, the joy for me was just going up to people and asking, "What the hell got you into this nonsense?" The most interesting person I met was a woman (whose name I forgot) who is a member of the Tall People tribe. Great conversationalist, great energy. Being 6'0, I'm average height for a guy, so to meet a woman who is 6'3" and comfortable with it (in this world of "men should be taller than women" bs), well ... I was really impressed.

My regret is that more folks from the wackier tribes where I'm a member didn't show up.

It's true about the dating stuff... I felt like meat (but a yummy kind of meat even a vegitarian would love).

My only wish is that it was a bigger bar. While I loved people squeezing by and rubbing their parts on me - it was difficult to have a conversation in the mists of the rubbing parts.

    Great moment:

Aaron M. displaying his Tribe Whore "tattoo" on his knuckles. Wish I'd gotten a picture of that.

    Bad moment:

Realizing that hardly anyone had made their own badge. So I was tipping my hand without them tipping theirs. No fair! So if I don't remember your name, you have only yourself to blame.

    Good moments:

Dancing with Mark M., Seymour B. and Squeeky. Thank you, all.

And a whole bunch of other good moments besides. It was a wonderful party.

yeah, the not having name tags sucked. talk to people? isn't that why we were hear in the first place, to avoid that. oh wait maybe that's just me. ;)

i got tons of people who didn't hear about it. it should have been an announcement like the scheduled outtage (if it was i missed it) or even heaven forbid a spam message to at least the people in the bay area zip codes.

was tons of fun. running joke was if you were a friend of squeeky's. ha ha. ;) got a picture taken with someone that i *didn't* know. okay, you all just keep laughing. don't mind that bazooka in my pants. ;) no really, don't mind me i'm just a geek.

was fun dancing with spidra, i'm sure they thought that was hot! and doing some professional networking with ken decanio, scott beale, barney pell.

and rj. you are lucky when he's in the same room with you!
